Who Are The Nobel Funk Off?

In 2009, the world’s first true “Supergroup”, The Nobel Funk Off, comprised of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates was launched on YouTube. The band’s founding members “Mother T”, “Diddy” Lama and Nelson “The Man” Dela played a new  tune – a tune for peace!

The video hit a chord with viewers and went on to receive over 1 million views on YouTube and millions more on news and variety TV shows around the world.

In 2011, The Nobel Funk Off is back on song, with an expanded line-up of Laureate band members, new tunes and new videos.

Funk in the name of World Peace.

The original band now includes other Nobel Laureates and peace advocates Barack “Attack” Obama, Mahatma “Go-Go” Gandhi, Martin Luther “The” King, Kofi “Two Sugars” Annan, and Mikhail Gorbachev (who has no nickname to his disgust).  Also in the mix are Albert “MC2” Einstein as the band’s accountant and “T-Bono” as the roadie.

The mega virals include back stories, interviews, auditions, busking / street performances, actual gigs and a surprise rival band to boot.

Filmed in Australia, the Peace Laureates went through a gruelling audition by the Dalai Lama and Mother Teresa, having been flown in from around world. All of the Laureates felt they could contribute more to world peace through their music than any other endeavour – and so the birth of the Supergroup.

The launch is more than a series of videos on YouTube. The Nobel Funk Off wants its fans to join in the project “Peace Has A New Tune”, and is putting out a call for “Jams for Peace” in the form of video replies on YouTube. A competition is being launched in conjunction with this. Full details will be announced very soon!

In addition, four original tracks have been written and produced for the YouTube videos. The songs will be for sale on iTunes.  Proceeds from iTunes sales will be donated to a charity in support of peace.
